Common disputes between couples and wedding planners and how to avoid them

Communication is everything – It certainly helps your planner to know your overall budget, and this is not something to be shy about!

Right from the start, make sure you openly discuss all your concerns and wishes with your planner. This way, you can ensure no further misunderstandings.

The most common dispute/misunderstandings I have seen are:

  • Costs are not clearly communicated, which leads to dispute

It’s very important to communicate directly what is included and what is not, for example: Additional costs of flowers & other items – What is included in the package you bought and what are the extra charges? You do not want to have an ugly surprise when you receive your bill.

  • Mismatch in expectations

Verify what you will get by looking at the pictures and trying the samples yourself to avoid disappointment. Ask them to send images and color samples before you commit further, as some people really have different views of what ‘pink’ is or other colors. And do a food tasting of your wedding menu first, if possible, to avoid disappointment. Inform your event manager of any allergies or special dietary requirements.

  • Missing deadlines

Be sure to communicate and define clearly what is the cut-off date that the final items should be delivered. Do not use vague terms like “later”, “ASAP” as this can have different meanings in different countries.
