1. Wake up among the mountains – Oculus Bali

Bali is undoubtedly the best-known island of Indonesia, but you can still get off the beaten track and away from the crowds – as long as you know where to look. The region of Kintamani in particular, has long been a popular gateway for those visiting the iconic Mount Batur.

The area is full of natural reserves and the cool temperatures make it ideal for a quick respite from the usual heat and humidity of South Bali. It’s also not as well developed as the south, so you can step right into the local lifestyle.

Kintamani is also still very dependent on farming. Like a voyage through time, you’ll notice there are still a lot of farmers working in the fields and because they use mostly organic fertilizers, there seems to be quite a number of flies in the region. But maybe, that’s also something that makes up the authentic charm of Kintamani…

Beyond its natural delights, Kintamani has recently seen several hotels, restaurants and cafes popping up, making it a great place to spend a night or two.

The villa boasts three different types of rooms. Each villa is different in appearance and amenities, but one of the few essential commonalities they share is the unparalleled volcano view. Whether you check into the Mandala or Madya tent, the sweeping views of the lake and mountain on the horizon will have you question your current location – so much so that you’d even forget you’re in Bali.

There is also the dreamy Mediterrani tent from which you can enjoy Kintamani’s greenery and still have access to the pool. Each tent is equipped with its very own bathroom and all other necessities to ensure your comfort. They also come with an air cooler just in case it gets too warm – not that you really have to worry as it is usually chilly in the Kintamani region.

4. Like in Switzerland – Lake Garden Bali

There can be few views as the ones offered at Lake Garden Bali. Sitting right on the shores of Lake Batur, the stay offers exclusive access to one of Bali’s most breathtaking landscapes. It’s a view guests get to enjoy from every corner of the property – the rooms, terrace, hot tub and infinity pool.

The area is remarkably peaceful and quiet. There are no restaurants or shops in the surroundings so we’d recommend you come prepared with snacks, although the hotel does offer room service and there is also the possibility of setting up a barbeque.

There’s also only 7 cylindrical rooms, so it’s really just you and a few others enjoying the amazing feeling of remoteness along with some of the most enchanting views. There’s so much to look out for that you might not want to go to bed at all. Not that it gets any less magical at night, as chances are you’re in for a stargazing treat!

5. Get majestic sea views from your bed – Le Cliff

The view from the bed, you guys. THE VIEW FROM THE BED! Can you imagine waking up to anything more beautiful (and in Bali, for that matter)?

Located in Uluwatu, you’ll find this hidden gem overlooking the beautiful ocean. A charming place for a romantic getaway or one with the girls, you decide, but did we mention the view from the bed?

If its sibling Le Bamboo invites you for an exciting jungle retreat, Le Cliff, offers an intimate relationship with the dazzling Indian Ocean. This beautiful accommodation in Uluwatu offers a unique space with creative and stunning interiors that rival other boutique hotels in the area.

I hate to say it friends, but it’s not enough to simply go somewhere unexceptionally ‘nice’ anymore. Oh no. Instagram went and ruined that for all of us. 8. Bali’s real showstopper – Blue Ocean Bingin

Blue Ocean Bingin has a privileged location on the coastal front of Bali.

The exclusive hideout features a limited number of rooms – 7 to be precise, all of which offer incredible ocean views. Not that you’ll ever have to step out too far to enjoy them, all you’ll have to do is open your eyes to bask in all kinds of shades of blue right from the comfort of your bed.

Each room is different from the other in terms of amenities. We’ve got a crush on the minimalist loft in particular, which comes as deeply photogenic and of course the undeniable truth is that it makes for some great Instagram photos!

Right below the property, you’ll find Bingin Beach – one of Bali’s most popular surf spots, lined up with a plethora of cafes, restaurants and other cool places to hangout at. The area is also known for some of the best seafood barbeques so don’t miss out on a sea-to-table dinner at sunset!

Note that you will be required to climb up and down a set of stairs to have access to the property. While not necessary (if you ask us), we also feel obliged to let you know that you will find no TV inside your room – but with a view like this one, who really needs any other form of entertainment?

9. Get a frontyard sea view and backyard mountain view at Villa Campuhan

Different stunning views from both the front yard and backyard can only be found at Villa Campuhan, a collection of privately owned villas.

There are 5 different types of villas for you to choose from: Villa Tuman, Villa Jasi, Villa Lumbung, Villa Agung and Villa Selak.

One of the highlights is Villa Agung’s unbeatable Mount Agung view. Imagine being able to wake up to this view!

10. Bali’s bamboo castle in the sky – Laputa Villa

A dream-escape for those looking for a bit of solitude, the standalone Laputa Villa is a luxury bamboo hut located in the charming village of Sidemen. Previously there had been no access road to the area, so everything surrounding you is still in its raw pristine state.

From here, enjoy an ample dose of fresh air and greenery without roughing it. You can be sure to experience the natural beauty of the great outdoors – whether it’s from your hanging net or the open-plan terrace. The 2-bedroom villa sits on a steep ridge, with spectacular views of the ocean and Nusa Penida on one side, with miles of rice terraces backed by the iconic Mount Agung on the other side.

The area is laced with trekking trails and other natural wonders that make for some great time discovering the green side of Bali – hikes, rafting, yoga classes can all be pre-arranged by the in-house team. After a hard day’s exploring, you could even request for a full body massage right at your villa or get them to set up a romantic dinner!

It’s important to note that there is no air conditioning at the villa – not that you’ll ever need it as this region of Bali is known for its year-round cool temperatures.

Upon arrival, guests are offered a pocket Wi-Fi but due to the remote location, the internet connection from here is not always strong. And because of the secluded mountainous location, there are no shops, ATMs or mini-marts within walking distance, but you can always hire a motorcycle to explore the surroundings.

11. Choose from endless activities: Sthala, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Ubud

We’d completely understand if you opted to stay in this hotel forever. After all, they have almost everything here! If surrounding yourself in lust tropical greenery while lounging in an infinity pool sounds like your kind of trip, this hotel is definitely the one for you.

If you’re in the mood for a little night life but don’t want to stray from the hotel, throw on your cutest top and plan a little date night at the Naga Rooftop Bar for cocktails to watch the sunset and take in the sweeping views.

Daytime activities are in no short supply, so if you want to plan a full day there’s tons to choose from! Balinese cooking classes, kite flying, and cycling tours are just a few from a long list of super fun things you can do during the day. You can also start your morning off right with a little sunrise yoga, and begin your day feeling relaxed and ready to go out on adventures!

12. Suites and villas only! – Aksari Resort Ubud

You can’t go to Bali without visiting its cultural hub. No matter how many times you’ve seen the island, whether this is your first or fifth time, Ubud is always worth a visit. And Aksari Resort makes a trip to the jungle even more tempting!

The resort is located in close proximity to the center of Ubud (25 minutes drive), but far enough for you to enjoy the real rainforest experience. There are seven different types of accommodation options available, ranging from suites to one-bedroom villas as well as a two-bedroom villa.

All villas come equipped with a private pool so if you’re ready for a small splurge (totally acceptable after 2 years of no travel), we’d absolutely suggest you treat yourself! Inside the villa, touches of color and natural materials are tell-tale signs of your destination and complete the feeling of immersion.

Fall in love with hearty Indonesian cuisine at the on-site Ankusa Restaurant or discover their Kojin Teppanyaki Restaurant for some quality Japanese delicacies. Ganapati is their sophisticated lounge and bar where you can sip coffee, refreshing mocktails and delicious craft cocktails overlooking the lush jungle.

Aksari Resort is also home to a wonderful infinity pool, accessible to every guest as well as the public (on a day pass or visiting the restaurants).

13. Overhanging views of the rice terrace valley – Samanvaya Villa

Want to experience Bali life as much as you can? Stay at the adults-only Samanvaya Villa. The hotel is strategically located only 35km (1 hour) from the centre of Ubud, providing easy access to all the facilities that you need in the city. With its strategic location, this hotel makes it easy to explore all the tourist spots in the city.

But of course, the most stunning feature is their infinity pool with endless views of magical and mystical Ubud. Gorgeously hanging over a valley of sloping rice terraces, the views here are not to be scoffed at. To top off the experience, enjoy your days at the pool with a delicious drink or two from the bar!

The swimming pool will make you feel at home for hours – and you can also enjoy a massage at their spa. If you’re a yoga-lover, why not join a yoga session at Samanvaya? Yoga at the in-house studio with those verdant views of the valley is a dream come true!

14. For absolute peace in Ubud’s forest (adults only!) – Woy Woy Escape Boutique Resort

Just when it seemed impossible for Bali to be any more extraordinary, comes the fantastic Woy Woy Escape Boutique Resort. This adults-only hideaway is tucked in the middle of Ubud’s mystical forest.

Simply put, it’s the jungle hut you were always looking for but had no idea where to find – it offers only two types of rooms: the Sky Suite which is equipped with a rooftop hot tub and the Forest Suite which comes with a hot tub on the balcony.

Besides the fact that children are not allowed at the resort, it also ticks all the boxes for a real romantic getaway in Bali: a private tub, floating breakfast, romantic movie night and some incomparable forest views are on offer. The on-site restaurant features a varied menu with a combination of Indonesian and Western delicacies. You’ll barely ever want to step out!

Please note that the property is not suitable for people with reduced mobility as you will be required to climb a series of stairs, regardless of your room location.

15. Plunge into a three-storey infinity pool! – The Kayon Jungle Resort

What would be your definition of a top resort? Because this one right here even features its own jungle pool club and bar!

During peak seasons, it is almost impossible to secure a room at The Kayon Jungle Resort but there are obvious reasons for that. The resort is simply spectacular. It is not difficult to see why it is so popular on social media either – look at this stunning view across the valley and their fabulous main pool that is tiered over three levels, presumably mimicking the rice terraces for which Ubud is famous for.

The property takes full advantage of the natural abundance and the best part yet is that it is an adults-only resort (no kids allowed!) so you can peacefully take in all of the jungle sounds!

The surroundings are on par with some of the bigger chain hotels over on the Sayan Ridge. The only thing is that the resort is pretty far from the main tourist attractions. However, they do provide a complimentary shuttle to take you to Ubud Central, which makes it very convenient if you are planning to explore!

To say the least, the resort was deemed as “easily the best part of an entire trip to Bali” by several guests! We’ve also heard that there’s nothing the team at The Kayon can’t solve. Replace the coke in your minibar with coke light? Consider it done! Prefer croissant to toast? Also possible!

16. Feel like an island inhabitant at Bloo Lagoon Village

Waking up will never be as exciting as at Bloo Lagoon Village.

Located in Padangbai, each villa provides a unique lookout view of the sea, even from outside of your bathroom!

You can cycle, fish and even enjoy the spa and massage facilities.

If you just want to laze in the pool, you’ll be able to see the majestic mountains of Bali.

17. Wake up to the volcanoes – Villa Sidemen

Bali is not only home to pristine beaches, but also to dramatic volcanoes – both active and extinct.

And how indulging would it be to wake up to a climatic view of the volcano?
