Hidden in the south-western tip of Bali, Uluwatu sure makes a great option for day trips. Perhaps you’ll be heading there to enjoy the majestic Kecak Dance, uncover exotic hidden beaches, bask in glorious clifftop views and enjoy the best beach clubs, and although day trips sound exciting, we’d simply recommend you to opt for a stay in Uluwatu to make the best out of it! I mean, who’d say no to waking up to endless ocean views?!
Of course, if we were to hold on to stereotypes, Uluwatu would be deemed as a destination for weddings, luxury seekers, and celebrities, but if you open your eyes wide (like us), you’d be in seventh heaven! The dreamy coastal town has a collection of stunning budget accommodations too!
If you’re unsure about where to stay on your next trip, check out our ultimate guide to the best places to stay in Bali.
Note: The prices reflected below are low season rates, and they exclude tax and service charges. Accommodation rates often change with room availability, and low or high seasons. We recommend double checking for the final prices before confirming your booking.
1. Indulge yourself in beachfront paradise – Suarga Padang-Padang
Plan your stay at this amazing and unique bamboo-architecture boutique resort for a truly memorable stay on Bali! Suarga Padang Padang, an eco-friendly establishment for environmentally-friendly travellers, is sure to really ‘wow’ you when you finally arrive.
Imagine yourself floating in this majestic infinity pool overlooking panoramic ocean views with a cocktail in your hand and watching as the sun sets from some of the best beaches in the world. Just seeing photos of this gem of a hotel is enough to make us want to pack our bags right away!
Calling all water sport adrenaline junkies! The beach is accessible on foot a mere two-minute walk from the front door of the hotel, where surfing is a popular daytime activity. But if you have a little streak of adventure in you, don’t miss out on the hotel-organized treks, waterfall hikes, and even diving!2. A blogger’s hidden oasis – Gravity Bali Hotel
If you’ve heard that gravity is the force that draws us down to earth, this little hotel in Uluwatu might rather take you to paradise!
We love a good beach rental as much as we love Bali and luckily, this photo-worthy stay is located a short distance from Uluwatu’s enviable stretches of sand and surf.
Located in a small alley in Jalan Labuan Sait, you’ll find 15 comfortable bungalows at Gravity, all designed in boho style and with ultimate beach vibes.
Whether you just want a place to lay your head between beach days or a home that lets you choose between ocean and pool, there’s something here for everyone.
On the outside, you’ll find refuge at their green garden with gazebo and a cascading infinity pool dotted with sunbeds and loungers. At first glance, you might think you’ve been transported to romantic Santorini.
With its Instagramable, chic, and chill venue, we bet it’ll hard to fight and leave gravity.
3. Get majestic sea views from your bed – Le Cliff
The view from the bed, you guys. THE VIEW FROM THE BED! Can you imagine waking up to anything more beautiful (and in Bali, for that matter)?
Still in Uluwatu, you’ll find this hidden gem overlooking the beautiful ocean. A charming place for a romantic getaway or one with the girls, you decide, but did we mention the view from the bed?
If its sibling Le Bamboo invites you for an exciting jungle retreat, Le Cliff, offers an intimate relationship with the dazzling Indian Ocean. This beautiful accommodation in Uluwatu offers a unique space with creative and stunning interiors that rival other boutique hotels in the area.
I hate to say it friends, but it’s not enough to simply go somewhere unexceptionally ‘nice’ anymore. Oh no. Instagram went and ruined that for all of us. Now, if we’re going to go on holiday in Bali, it feels like we’re obliged to visit somewhere super cool, somewhere with endless ocean views from your bed and complemented with interiors that are inspired by Pinterest maybe? Somewhere called Le Cliff, for sure.
Cheeky groups of monkeys are often spotted in the area so make sure you close your balcony door whenever you head out!
4. Be a Barbie girl in a Barbie world! – Pink Coco
Putting stereotypes aside, we’d say that Pink Coco is a one-of-a-kind stay with a big dose of pink and eventually plenty of #OOTD spots. Stepping into this fantasyland brings you to flamingo-pink interiors with quirky whimsical decor, it’s also just downright attractive and kitsch.
Meanwhile, your room doesn’t skip on the eclectic pink, with matching dreamy millennial-coloured cushions and equally colourful murals.
Gourmands will be delighted with their on-site award-winning restaurant, Trattoria, offering scrumptious Italian cuisine in a moonlit venue.
With Padang Padang Beach being a short 5-minute walk away, you’ll have your dose of turquoise blue sea when you’re done seeing life in pink. The beach is a famous spot for surfers and glossy sunburnt beach bums on the lookout for tanlines so you might join in the crowd too.
5. Stay in a bamboo hut! – Le Bamboo
If a natural retreat is your kind of dream holiday, Le Bamboo, with its cool jungle vibes and dazzling sweeping panorama may be what you’re looking for while in Uluwatu.
Designed as perfect spots to seek solitude, the bamboo huts are hidden on top of a green lush hill with Padang Padang Beach lying just a kilometre away – making it ideal for beach bums!
The thatched roof villas here are built with natural limestone and black bamboo, bringing a unique back-to-nature feel to the experience. As most of the villas are two-storey buildings, you will get to lounge upstairs and enjoy a majestic scenery of lush greenery with the vast ocean lying in front.
Sunset is a long-awaited moment at Le Bamboo as you dip in the infinity pool and relish Mother Nature’s best colour palette when the sky turns from blue, orange and pink – an even greater moment since there’s no skyscraper in the surroundings.
6. Get a taste of Santorini in Bali – Despacito Loft & Lounge
The song Despacito by Luis Fonsi may have created a worldwide buzz in the music industry but look out for Despacito Loft & Lounge in Uluwatu, as this striking stay is one that deserves to make history too.
Checking in at Despacito Loft & Lounge is almost as if you’ve made it to a Cycladic island. Blame it on its looks and sceneries, you’ll have an almost Santorini-like ocean view lying before you too.
Well, it does not end here. Book a stay at their two-storey loft and enjoy a private bathroom and pantry on the first floor with a cosy bedroom on the second floor. The all-white room with rustic wooden design and decor brings in a charming natural ambience.
On days where you are not exploring Uluwatu’s hidden beaches, lounge on their bean bags as you chug down icy-cold Bintangs (local beer) or take a dip in their infinity pool with jungle views. But when adventure is calling, just remember that Padang Padang Beach is a short 10-minute walk away!
7. This place belongs to your Instagram feed! – Sal Secret Spot
At Sal Secret Spot, you can vacation like an Olympian god. And if there’s something we’re sure of, it is that it won’t stay very secret for long – blame it on its good looks and guaranteed Instagram bragging rights!
Relish the comfort of your thatched roof lodge and wake up to magnificent ocean views right at your doorstep. These are what dreams are made of when in Bali.
You’ll fall for the beautiful white-stone building that is complemented by a two-level swimming pool where you can collect tan lines from the baking Balinese sun as you float on their beanbags.
A combination of wood and other natural materials give a charming look to the stay; you’ll also find a beautiful garden and lounge area with a gazebo to relax at.
8. Relish in the unobtrusive ocean view from the hammock – The Sun & Surf Stay
We’re not going to lie, reaching The Sun & Surf Stay may not be very convenient since it’s located at the clifftop village of Bingin. But fret not, once you have conquered the long stairs in the narrow alleyway (the hotel clerk will help you with the luggage), you’ll be rewarded with a little slice of paradise, one that is bound to awaken your senses.
Unlock your room door and check into a whitewashed decor, alongside postcard-perfect views. Take time to lounge in the hammock hanging on your private balcony as you swoon away with jaw-dropping views of the endless ocean.
You may even be able to spot surfers conquering epic waves from your room since your stay overlooks the famed Bingin Beach. Keen for some action? Why not rent a surfboard and join the fun of riding waves? You are in Uluwatu, the surfers’ paradise after all!
9. Your very own slice of Santorini in Bali – Morabito Art Cliff
The latest find we’re obsessing over, Morabito Art Cliff is here with their very own version of Santorini.
Yes, there’s no need to pay a hefty price for a flight to Greece – all you have to do is head to Bali for a taste of Greece’s famed island!
Laze the day away in a jacuzzi tub facing the sapphire oceans by day, and by night enjoy the cool tropical ocean breeze in the LED-lit tub.
Great for couples who are longing to truly get away, Morabito Art Cliff indulges your senses in every way.
And just so you know, they also have accommodation that transports you to Marseille (France), and more!
10. If you prefer one unique-looking pool: The Elementum
Resorts are grandiose and flashy, whereas boutique hotels are a different kind of luxury – they’re special, if you ask us! Slightly less packed, a little more hidden, and where service is much more personal, boutique hotels are a truly intimate way of discovering a location.
The Elementum is no different, with only eight rooms available, they preach small luxuries. You’ll likely feel like you have the entire place to yourself! With an industrially chic design, as they put it, the modern vibe of this place will have you slowly unwinding with each day of your stay! Days here are best spent in their cool wavy pool and thanks to their kitchen being open for all meals and a lovely rooftop lounge to have your sunset cocktails in!
11. An entire villa right in front of the beach all for you: Bingin Cliff House
Beachfront villas are an absolute joy, waking up to the sound of the waves makes your day brighter from the get go, and being able to go to and from the beach within a matter of minutes gives you a sense of freedom.
One of the best beaches for surfing is also one of the cutest little strips of land. So if you’re keen for conscious cafes in between surf breaks, this is where you need to be. Situated right on the cliff overlooking to this beach, you’ll be blessed with unparalleled views of the rolling shores!
The villa itself has four bedrooms, so gather up some friends and start splitting the rates, a girls vacay full of pampering or a boys surf trip is due!
12. A hipster experience close to the sea: BoHo Bingin Beach
Something for the bohemian mermaids out there! An ultimate tropical experience awaits at this adorably chic little hotel. A stone’s throw away from the beautiful white sands of Bingin beach.
If you’re into cute conscious restaurants, a place to practice your yoga, and a little rugged escape from Bali’s hectic streets, then this is the place for you.
Decorated with a distinct boho Balinese style (hence the name), you’ll truly find yourself disconnecting from the rest of the world here.
While snapping a photo of every inch of this gorgeous boutique hotel seems tempting, why not take a moment to soak it all in without technology for a change! You’ll love it!
13. A beautiful stay that is good for the earth too!: Green Escape Eco Resort
There’s nothing better than an eco-friendly stay, travelling already takes quite a toll on the environment, so staying in a place which ensures it does as little damage to the earth is a vital part of slow travel! So not only does this place look like a tropical haven, their bungalows are actually made out of recycled wood so your stay supports an institution that aims to do good!
Several adorable beach huts are surrounded by lush green garden, in the centre of it all, a dazzling blue pool. At only 350 meters away Bingin Beach will be your playground, where you can wander the endless amounts of cute cafes, and connect with other people living the slow life.
Each room is quaint and will absolutely charm you upon arrival, in between surfing the waves, munching on cafe food, and lazing in the pool, you’ll find your room to be the ultimate relaxation point!
14. A tranquil escape atop majestic cliffs: Villa V Uluwatu Suite No. 3
Villa V is unlike any other, perched atop Uluwatu’s famed cliffs, overlooking the majestic blue ocean, you’ll be absolutely dazzled from the moment you enter and get to see the view from the floor-to-ceiling windows!
Breakfast is served every morning, catering to whatever dietary requirements you need, you get a private entrance so despite not being a hotel, you’ll definitely feel like it is.
In fact, you may love that it’s not a hotel, because that means a limited number of rooms, and if you’re lucky you may even get the whole place to yourself!
300 steps will take you straight down to Bingin Beach, where you can laugh, run, and play in the sand before heading back up and resting in your gorgeous modern room.
15. Get your very own hot tub! – La Cabane
This bungalow is a 10 minute walk from Balangan on foot (the same beach we’ve been raving about this whole time) and is very close to the quieter Biu Biu beach.
Wondering what the decor is like? Well, it’s fully decked out in a swooningly romantic style, has a beautiful private swimming pool, and an open air bathroom.
Yet perhaps the greatest thing about this property is the hot tub, a rare bird in Balinese hotel rooms.
With the whopping potential for romance, this one bedroom bungalow (and hot tub) would be absolutely perfect for couples looking for respite from the normal everyday dreariness.
16. Home away from home: Milo’s Home (from US$81 per night)
This villa may be called Milo’s Home, but at the end of your stay, you’ll wish it’s yours too.
With a small group of 8 bungalows modelled after ancient barns, Milo’s Home has a familial and cosy atmosphere that will quickly have you warming up to its group of staff. This comfortable atmosphere permeates throughout the complex, and is guaranteed to make you feel right at home.
Other than the pretty rooms built from bamboo, Milo’s Home also has beanbags and chairs for you to chill on the breezy terrace. And who can forget the infinity pool, which offers the best vantage point for watching the sunset?
Views from the bungalows look like beautiful paintings, with one of the bungalows even overlooking the entire ocean.
If you ever get tired of just standing at your balcony and staring out to sea – we sure won’t – you can always head down to the Uluwatu Temple or Balangan beach for a surf too! (It’s just a 5-8 min walk! So you don’t have to lug your surfboard around)
One thing’s for sure – you definitely won’t be missing home during your stay at this little haven!
17. Go green: La Joya Biu-Biu (from US$121 per night)
This tiny bungalow in South Kuta is a great choice for the environmentally-friendly traveller – it’s located within the La Joya Biu-Biu resort complex, an eco-friendly establishment.
The loft-style housing, completely built from native materials such as limestones from the area, is a cute alternative from the usual type of architecture.
And the infinity pool offers a sweeping view of the secluded Balangan beach. This beach is also blessed by several surf breaks close at hand that is demanded by all surfers in particular for experience up to professional surfers.
