18 best work-friendly cafes in Bali with great Wi-Fi and power socket

As a famous tourist destination, Bali provides the most luxurious accommodations, exciting party places, and beautiful beaches.

But not everyone here has their mind set for just a good time, some come here not only to play but also to work.

Whether you’re finding some place to camp out in between beach-hopping to check important e-mails, or update your travel blogs, Skype with the loved ones at home, or just uploading beautiful photos to your website – a good spot to work at is important.

Sure, there are a lot of cafes in Bali, but if you’re going to work, you’re going to need 1) good coffee, 2) free WiFi, 3) power outlets, and 4) um, well, beer.

And a good thing about Bali is that no one will try to kick you out or bother you every 30 minutes whether or not your order only consists of one coffee.

But of course, disclaimer here: No wifi is perfect, especially in Bali where internet in general can be as unpredictable as the Balinese climate nowadays. So don’t pull your hair out if your email takes forever to get sent, sometimes there are problems with the telco, or it can be a regional internet problem, or it can be simply because too many of your fellow diners are watching YouTube and slowing down the internet speed!

Instead of stalking your neighbours and peeping over their phones or laptop, why not spend this pocket of no-internet downtime to sip your coffee, stare out into the streets or paddy fields, and chat up that cute girl sitting opposite you? Because, hey, you are in Bali after all!

Here’s how we’ve rated the Wi-Fi score below:

3-4: Intermittent stability in internet connection. There are times that the network might not be stable so get ready to practice your patience when this happens! Not recommended for high network bandwidth activities like streaming HD videos (from a server outside Indonesia like Netflix), doing video calls, etc.

4-5: More stable Internet connection, high network bandwidth activities would be possible, but not during peak hours with herds of digital nomads at the cafe (you know there are many in Bali).

This list is just the tip of the iceberg, but it’s enough to get you started. Have at it, you lucky office-less people!

Work-friendly cafes in Ubud

1. More than just a French bistro with delectable desserts! – Kebun Bistro

Also known as Garden Bistro, Kebun Bistro is a delightful little French bistro situated in Ubud. Serving Mediterranean food, diners often pop in for brunch, dinner, drinks and even some late night nibbles.

Of course, for those of us hungering for another awesome work space, and a much needed change of environment – Kebun Bistro and its quaint French décor will surely refresh you.

Or at least, make you feel like you’ve transported into yet another mysterious rabbit hole, not unlike one of Ubud’s many surprising finds.

With delectable desserts like Tarte au Citron Meringue, homemade sorbet and so much more, you know you’re in for a productive day of work with sweet treats to nibble on and keep you going.

If you’re wondering about food, the extensive menu offers bites from escargot and yummy Arancini Balls, to Tapas and Moroccan Lamb Shank!

2. Vroom through your work like it’s the 90s – Cafe Vespa

Small, intimate and relaxing would be a perfectly apt description of Cafe Vespa. Nestled not too far from Ubud Market, take an easy stroll here and get away from the flurry of cars and tourists as you get cracking on your work.

The cafe prides themselves on their in-house bakery where fresh bread, croissants and cakes are on the extensive menu, along with a mixture of western dishes and more that certainly won’t disappoint even the pickiest of eaters.

As you enjoy your cuppa while your fingers are busy typing away, and you can be rest assured that the internet here will work like a charm (however Skype is discouraged because it slows everybody else down). The walls are also equipped with power sockets for when you find your computer running low on battery.

3. Get your Kombucha fix here!  – Watercress Ubud

Not a stranger to attention, Watercress has been featured by some of the most prolific media in the world – New York Times and Conde Nast Traveller magazine included.

For those who have been to Watercress in Canggu, you’d be delighted to find a sister branch in Ubud offering a similar menu of fresh and healthy selections.

Located less than a kilometre from Ubud Market, this cafe aced in its location – making it the perfect venue for digital nomad to seek respite after a ‘quickie shopping’ session.

Despite it being a proper dining joint, you might find yourself surrounded by other professionals typing away furiously while enjoying the reliable wifi the cafe has to offer. You can always ask to be whisked away to a table that’s close to a power point too.

4. Going local and packing a punch – Warung Biah Biah

The genius who decided to invest in good wifi deserves several browny points for sure – and for that very reason (and it’s really good food) this warung makes the list.

Known for its reputation for serving humble yet delicious Balinese fare at a really affordable price – Warung Biah Biah is one of the raddest (most Balinese?) place you might want to get cranking at.

The origin of the name is not known (if any of you find out, please do share with us!), but this charming warung has certainly been delighting many locals and foreigners alike.

Finding it might be a challenge since it is tucked away in the narrow street along Jalan Goutama – but before you get all anxious about it,  you only need to ask the locals, and be led to this cozy place.

Do not be fooled by its modest appearance. This warung is furnished with enough power sockets to ensure your notebook stays alive – and best of all, you can happily chug on beers available in house as you go about doing your work.

5. Power up and get caffeinated – Kopi Desa Ubud

When it comes to getting your work done, the urge for doses of caffeine can come pretty strong. In Kopi Desa Ubud, you’d be a fool to say no to a cuppa prepared by a professional barista.

Deemed “a place you can easily spend hours at” by a patron, we are not surprised by the comment. The rustic decor that greets you, makes one feel at home immediately.

Plush pillows and shelves filled with books are a bonus, and it certainly makes it easy for you to pluck a title off the shelves during a mini-break.

Serving simple yet delicious meals, this cafe does not disappoint in the food department. So you can be rest assured that your tummy is well taken care of.

As if that’s not enough, Kopi Desa Ubud spoils you further with a weekly movie screening that you can catch,  if work becomes too much. That’s definitely one way to get your creative juices flowing.

One little catch, finding the power socket proved to be a tough one. However we’re pretty certain the staff will be more than happy to charge it up when you decide to take a break from your computer.

6. For the sweet-toothed digital nomad – Caramel Patisserie and Cafe

Not trying to sugarcoat it but when it comes to dessert, Caramel Patisserie and Cafe certainly knows what they are doing.

Home to delicious flavours and tastes, one will marvel at their rainbow-coloured display of macaroons, and be fully tempted into sinking their teeth into one of them.

As you pore over the finishing touches for that business proposal, don’t forget to take a sip of their delicious hot chocolate concoction – a well-rounded drink of sugar and spice, made with Indonesian cocoa with a dash of cinnamon.

Work-friendly cafes in Kuta, Seminyak and Kerobokan

1. Take the Road Less Traveled – Tuck & Trap, Kerobokan

For a smaller, quieter space to sip and type, it doesn’t get friendlier than this charming coffee shop opened by a couple of locals.

Say hello to this new joint offering great food and coffee (at very affordable prices!), as well as creative artworks and murals by local artists.

Incredibly unique and colorful, this container-like space overlooks a gorgeous rice field that could make it the next great hangout in the Kerobokan area.

It also has an outdoor area right next to the rice field, using oil drums as the tables, complete with parasols.

Since it’s located in a less traveled road, especially by tourists, just off the main street of Kerobokan – Tuck & Trap is the perfect place if you need a quiet place to work.

2. Coffee, Coffee, and more Coffee – The Coffee Library Seminyak

Need a nice place to chill for drinks, and hide away from the scorching sun or the rain while updating your travel blog?

This cute little place consists of 2 storeys with an outside area at the front, an ideal spot for watching people passing by the busy Seminyak, while the exterior features cascading vines and parked motorbikes.

Supporting local Indonesian coffee, The Coffee Library keeps in reserve a variety of quality coffee beans from around Indonesia, including the famous  ‘kopi luwak’ (civet cat coffee).

The best part of The Coffee Library? No one will bother you if your laptop is still out and you’re still working by the time you order your second drink. Oh, and as if this place wasn’t hard enough to define, it also offers a full breakfast and lunch, plus dinner menu.

3. Get your creativity flowing at this whimsical café – Sea Circus

“Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”

This seems to be the theme at Sea Circus with its surprising juxtaposition of characteristics. From its name, to the décor (even in the bathrooms!) Sea Circus is a really interesting café to work at – and maybe even break out of that writer’s block you’ve been struggling with.

Despite its whimsical name, it’s not actually a circus on the sea, but a restaurant/cocktail bar/coffee den.

“Proper coffee, epic breakfast, kicking cocktails, yummy tapas, stylish décor, mega playlists, pumping parties.” These are just some of the things that set the tone at Sea Circus, that;s almost guaranteed to get your creativity flowing.

4. Shop, Sip, and Skype – Buro Concept Store & Coffee, Petitenget (closed permanently)

Unlike any other café, this spacious and cozy place merged the idea of a coffee shop, working space and concept store to create a unique hang out spot.

Yup, while waiting for your Skype call to start, you can spend time browsing and shopping collections of clothing, accessories, books, shoes, homeware, furniture and even artworks from talented young local designers.

Located right above the hip Livingstone Café & Bakery, this bright airy spot offers great ambiance, great light (thanks to the big windows), and a very modern yet calm atmosphere. And when it’s almost sunset, the sunlight peeks in and gives it a nice golden touch.

There are three main seating areas to choose from, near the bar, outside, or the main cafe downstairs where you can also grab the menu from and place your order!

5. Little Gem in Hipster Paradise – Ruko Cafe, Canggu

There’s something about being less than 200 meters from a stretch of beach that makes work feel less like work.

Near famed surfer’s spot Berawa Beach, this space is a little tight, but if you order food and a couple cups of coffee (or bottles of beer), no one’s going to mind if you stay put for a few hours.

The WiFi is really fast, so it is the perfect air-conditioned spot to do any online work.

This coffee shop is also a creative hub. You can tell from the inside and outside murals made by artists from around the world.  They also provide sketch books with colour pencils in case you want to embrace your creativity.

6. An Oasis of Calm – Pison Coffee, Petitenget

With stacks of books decorating cozy alcoves, vintage flooring, and pendant lighting on the bar, this feels like the type of place to bring a typewriter instead of a MacBook.

As soon as you slide through the door and enter, you will enjoy a wave of a cool welcoming feeling accompanied by the aroma of fresh ground coffee. You’ll also observe people enjoying an oasis of calm, in the sea of beautiful chaos that is Seminyak.

This discreet industrial/rustic cafe has two floors. Downstairs, there are a few tables, a bookshelf, and a musicians’ corner.

Yes, live music is available in the morning from 10am to 12pm, Tuesdays to Thursdays, so you can chill to some live music as you eat your breakfast and get started on the day’s work.

7. A Secret Relaxing Escape from the Busy Streets – Shelter Cafe Bali, Seminyak

It’s hard to find a café that feels personal and cozy in Seminyak, but this breezy intimate spot delivers both, down an alley that’s easy to miss.

8. The 24-Hour Melting Pot – Brown & Butter Cafe at Berry Biz Hotel, Kuta 

How often have we at MehtheSheep heard our colleagues talking about how great it is to work at Brown & Butter Cafe!

You can stay at Berry Biz Hotel for not only the free continental breakfast, but best of all, the free WiFi. And even if you’re not a guest of the hotel, you can still enjoy the various dishes and internet connection in their Brown & Butter Café.

9. It’s like working in a magazine spread with delicious food! – Grocer and Grind (closed permanently)

Having been around for 9 years, and with 4 equally stunning outlets spread across Bali – Grocer and Grind mixes good coffee and great food with interiors coming straight out of a design magazine.

Imagine a magazine spread with its dash of minimalist chic with timber accents, and a sprinkle of funky art prints and interesting wallpaper. Grocer and Grind is perfect for those of us who work remotely (most especially freelance designers, we reckon).

Enough about the décor, you’ll be happy to know that Grocer & Grind is famous for their daily roasted organic coffee and delicious breakfasts!

They have menus available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner – as well as menus for pizzas, desserts, and a dedicated sundae menu. (Ice cream should definitely be included as a major perk-me-up. ;P)

Last but not least, cocktails, wines and spirits are available all day so you can get a drink whenever you want. (Editor’s Note: “Write drunk, edit sober”, right? XP)

NOW CLOSED: 10. Have all day breakfast as you work away – Milk & Madu Cafe, Canggu

Nestled under a traditional open air structure (called Joglo) just on the edge of Canggu – Milk & Madu has a peaceful side courtyard, and a small garden replete with stepping stones. (Quite similar to their famous “sister” Watercress.)

Their specialty is the all-day breakfast menu with a twist. If breakfast usually involves sweet coffee, crispy croissants, fresh juice and golden delicious eggs over buttered toast, here they take it a step further.

Try their skillet eggs, sautéed potato, crumbed chorizo, marinated peppers, parmesan & thyme and grilled sourdough. Breakfast in Canggu just got a whole lot better!

11. More Than Just Standard Cup of Coffee – Bootstrap Cold Brew Coffee Lab, Canggu (closed permanently)

How good does a combination of coffee + coconut milk + coconut nectar sound?

This cool industrial-styled coffee lab only serves cold brew coffee (no other drinks) with no preservatives and no added sugar, and tasty homemade cookies. If you’re a coffee addict, then this place will be perfect for you.

It’s organic and seems to be made with care and love for coffee. You can drink it on site, and if you need more, bring one of the cool dark glass bottles home!

And of course, If you need serious quiet, hit Bootstrap Cold Brew Coffee Lab. Not only is the place quiet and calm, it also has laptop-friendly tables at a good comfortable height, and much welcomed air-conditioning.

12. Great Hidden Find – Whale & Co., Seminyak

With the queues outside the Starbucks outlets all but gone, it’s time to have a look at this independent coffee shop with Melbourne café vibes.

Hidden down an alleyway, Whale & Co. is located outside the noisy and crowded areas of Seminyak, Legian and Kuta.

Not only does it offer a home-like comfy ambience, this small place also provides the best quality of Indonesian coffees such as those from Gayo, Aceh, Ciwidey, and many more. Don’t forget to try their freshly baked cinnamon rolls!
