Bali is known for a lot of things – pristine beaches, fantastic swells for surfing, seafood and temples.
Let’s add bars to that list, and we’re not just talking about those awesome rooftop bars you all know about.
Here, we have unique bars that transport you to a different world, where you can have a conversation, and those you will talk about long after you’ve returned home.
Have you experienced lazing on a platform in the middle of the ocean? Or downed whisky in a horror laboratory?
We’ll show you what it means to be unique, even when you’re getting your alcohol fix.
1. The Bamboo Bar: Swing and get tipsy with a cocktail
The Bamboo Bar is an entire work of art.
Designed by a Balinese architect, it’s built completely from bamboo – ingenious and environmentally friendly.
The best thing? The swing seats surrounding the bar – you can relax in these bamboo cradles while sipping a cocktail, sort of like an alcoholic baby.

Mocktails, thin crust pizzas and the strong wifi connection are other good reasons why you should come here.

Since the bar is on the beach, you can laze on the sun loungers too.

Or you can just take a tipsy walk on the beach, splash a bit in the sea, or swim if you are not too drunk!2. Have a unique party for the boys at a ‘barbershop’ – The BARber, The Sintesa Jimbaran
Don’t worry, you won’t be downing shampoo shots and conditioner cocktails here.
The BARber at The Sintesa Jimbaran is actually a legit bar. If you were already thinking about getting a haircut at this place, don’t be disappointed – it’s a real barbershop too!

This watering hole was constructed as a nod back to the 1920s, when an alcohol prohibition drove people to drink secretly.

Open the hidden door and see another shining achievement added to your hipster portfolio. Whiskeys, vodkas and branded liquors, as well as the bar’s signature craft cocktails, are all available in this atmospheric modern bar.
The BARber’s also here to stop you from being a broke hipster – don’t forget to make use of promotions such as the Buy 1 Get 1 during Happy Hours from 3 – 6pm daily!
If you get wasted, you can always go dunk your head in the pool (which you have free access to). You won’t have to worry about ruining your hairstyle – what could happen when there’s a barber inside waiting to save you from hairy situations?
3. Mirror Lounge and Bar: For the gothic worshippers
Mirror Lounge and Bar is behind the cafe Gardin Bistro (run by the same company), so you can head to the latter first to load up on pastries and coffee, before heading to the back to dance the calories off.
Photo via igophotoworks
Resembling a cross between a Gothic cathedral (high ceilings, hanging lamps, general creepy beauty) and a rave from the future (laser lights) Mirror is the place to worship the night.
You can dance the night away to internationally famous DJs, watched over by trapeze artists swinging over your head.
And though you’re indoors, you can easily imagine the space opening up to the stars – the roof is made of glass.
4. Live like it’s happy hour all day everyday – Woobar at W Bali – Seminyak
Woobar at W Bali – Seminyak is one incredible bar destination for eating, drinking, flirting, and playing from sunshine to sunset.
Before you enter the bar, you will be greeted by the forest entrance of W Hotel.
Photo via: jarradseng
Packed to the brim with different things to do, check out the sights from the sky deck atop the club, and dance to the pumping beat as a revolving rotation of hot international DJs spin the latest tracks.
There’s a daily sunset session featuring both resident and international DJs during the weekend, as well as complimentary pool access for visitors to the bar.
For something a little more chill, lounge by the pool with a poolside cocktail in hand; or shisha it up with an eclectic selection of smokes. For food, there’s also a great menu of Asian and Mediterranean food to sample!
When you’re here at Woobar, you definitely need to try the signature cocktails – I – Candy “Our Signature”, W 2-tini and Mango Rush.
Go during happy hour from Monday to Thursday (4pm to 6pm), and get 2 for 1 signature cocktails, AND a complimentary pizza!
Poolside cocktail, beachfront bite, or a late night dance session, keep up with latest happenings at #woobarbali via their Instagram – so you know just how great it gets.
5. El Kabron: Authentically Spanish food
The El Kabron restaurant and club opens at 11.30am and closes only at 10pm, so you can actually party all day and well into the night.
And you’d probably love to!
Photo via lia_juliarti_mua
The establishment sits on a cliff top overlooking the Indian Ocean, a view you can enjoy as you feast on Spanish cuisine in the glass-fronted dining room, sunbathe on the deck in front of it or lounge in the infinity pool.

Perched on the cliff edge, you can almost imagine going over the edge as you take in the sunset from the pool.

Live DJs will entertain well into the night and you can dance in this open air club, high on paella, sangria and life.

6. Let all your blues fade away – BLU Restaurant–Bar–Lounge
At BLU Restaurant–Bar–Lounge, blue is no longer a colour for sadness.
Photo via corneliaadari
This rooftop bar is located right next to Golden Tulip Devins Hotel’s unique rooftop pool, but the blue of the cooling swimming pool isn’t the only thing you’ll be seeing.
Photo via Wulan Onyet
That’s right – the surrounding view of endless blue skies is all yours for the taking, thanks to the bar’s refreshing open concept.
Even if sitting outside isn’t your thing, we think this place will change your mind soon enough. But, if it really isn’t your thing, you can still opt to sit at the indoor restaurant area. You won’t be missing out on anything, as the glass windows open up the place to equally amazing views for miles and miles.

Just don’t get so busy staring outside that you forget to order your drinks! Other than sweet cocktails, BLU Restaurant–Bar–Lounge also has a series of yummy International and Asian cuisine available.

Fill up with those gourmet burgers and pastas to save yourself from a hangover the next morning!
7. Puri Santrian bar: Drink by the sea then float away
If the stunning view of the sea from the beachfront Puri Santrian Bar by the Sea is not enough for you, you can try this:

Swim out to laze on a floating platform in the middle of the ocean, right after you’re done with your drink.
You’ll be the envy of all the other holidaymakers.
8. Sk8r Bois and girls unite – Pretty Poison
He was a skater boy ~ She said “See ya later, boy” ~
And they met at Pretty Poison for an awesome time.
This bar may be named just like another US TV show – but it’s actually a one-of-a-kind establishment where you can both drink and skateboard!

Even if skateboarding isn’t your scene, you’ll have tons of fun sitting by the Californian-style deep bowl pool, and watching both local and foreign talents show their skateboard swag.

Music lovers will not be disappointed here as well, as Pretty Poison often invites guest DJs – and even opens up the floor for exciting Open Mic sessions.

Get up there and sing your heart out – who knows? Maybe you’ll land yourself a Sk8r Boi.
9. Games and drinks (and you) are best friends – The Melting Pot Saloon Bali
Here is where husbands and boyfriends will find release from the endless days of being dragged around to shopping spots.
At The Melting Pot Saloon Bali, you can enjoy two of the things that you love the most – drinks and games.
With two large projection screens and TVs available, no longer will you have to resort to standing on a stool to watch your favourite striker score that goal.
Photo via _ktung
Sounds like a dream come true? Well, you can afford to dream bigger here, because the beer happens to be very affordable too.
Better yet, you won’t be stuck just watching games, you’ll get to play ‘em too!
The Melting Pot Saloon has a variety of games available, ranging from pool and table tennis to darts and even coin-operated video games!

Anyone else feels their youth coming back to them?
They even have Bali’s only Texas Chili Cookoff, where you can compete to be the hottest chilli maker! What else can you ask for?
All you have to do here, is have fun… and be a good sport (;>).
10. The Bush Telegraph Pub: For aspiring crocodile hunters
With a focus on Australian food and a gigantic crocodile (which is thankfully very much dead) at the entrance, The Bush Telegraph Pub screams outback, Steve Irwin and all things adventurous.
But apart from the much-feared reptile, this pub also offers live bands, wonderfully cold beer, steak, grilled tuna, and (if you’re into it) lots of drunk Australians.
It’s basically like a trip to the land of Oz without the giant spiders and trees that could kill you.
After all, if it’s good enough for this Kangaroo it’s good enough for you.
11. Find this hidden (literally) bar – Baker Street Social
If you have an innate attraction to all things hipster, you’ll definitely love Baker Street Social. It’s the new kid on the block of bars that will make you feel like a special snowflake.
It may have “social” in its name, but Baker Street Social is kind of an anti-social bar.
This bar is Bali’s first late-night “speakeasy” bar, a literally hidden bar that can only be found by random explorers and people in the know.
Photo via marcotjokro
It’s a nod at the illicit bars that were secretly set up in the 1920s to 30s, when the alcohol prohibition prevented people from partying out in the open.
You’ll find it hidden away on the second floor, along with its collection of unique cocktails.
A reviewer has said that you can’t call yourself an alcoholic if you haven’t been to this place, and we agree.

How can you miss out on the unique Tiki cocktails, or the Smoky Old Bastard, which is contained inside a skull-shaped glass?
We never knew cocktail could be a form of art, but consider us enlightened.
12. VIN+ Seminyak: Fine architecture and finer wine
Started by wine and restaurant group VIN+, which is renowned for its extensive collection of labels from around the world, VIN+ Seminyak offers a treat not just for the palate, but also for the eyes.
The bar is a housed in a soaring structure of bamboo, local wood and stone, standing out starkly even in its swank Seminyak neighbourhood.
Photo via Asia Bars
Its interior is equally stunning, with high ceilings, spaced-out tables and romantic yellow lighting that create a relaxed atmosphere.

Come here to while away the evening with charcuterie boards, house cured salmon and bottles and bottles of wine.
13. Double-Six Club: Float and party
You can expect to be entertained, wined and dined at Double-Six Luxury Hotel.
Standing at 1,700 square metres, Double-Six Rooftop is the hotel’s rooftop bar (and also one of Bali’s largest), where you can party every night.
15 metres above sea level and overlooking Double-Six Beach, there’s plenty of view to enjoy as you sip on cocktails with a Balinese twist, listen to the DJs and relax in floating pods—circular benches surrounded by water.
14. La Favela: Not quite a shanty
From the name alone you’ve probably decided that this is a Brazilian-themed bar.
Photo via: paulathomson
Not wrong, but Brazilian-themed doesn’t even begin to describe how rad this place is.
Photo via: helloravinda
La Favela looks like an abandoned colonial building hidden in a jungle, with colourful antique furniture, vines creeping all over, old bicycles, scooters and a tired-looking Volkswagen that add to the feel of a place left behind by time.

But it’s lively too — the resident macaw, ferret and fish keep pace with the clubbers.
You’ll be able to keep going all night fueled by the excellent tapas and the refreshing cocktails.
15. Karma Beach Bali: Life is a beach
The Karma Beach club is located at the bottom of a cliff on one of Bali’s hidden beaches, where white sand meets the sparkling Indian Ocean, clear and blue for as far as the eye can see.
But you’re probably wonder how to get down to the club — this is where the fun begins.
You can either take the stairs or pay USD $2 to take the inclinator ride to the bottom. Either way, you’ll get to enjoy a panoramic view of the beach and sea.
Once you’re there, you’ll be greeted with deck chairs, parasols and a restaurant in a beach shack with a thatched roof and bamboo veranda.
Get your gourmet cocktails and wood-fired pizzas here.
You can sunbathe, go snorkeling or admire the limestone cliffs while kayaking.
Karma Beach brings in live DJs so the entire beach takes on a party atmosphere as night falls!
But on Mondays, the entertainment is a little different – an outdoor theatre will be set up for movie screenings, which are bound to be magical whether it’s ’22 Jump Street’ or ‘The Great Gatsby’ playing.
16. Temple Lounge & Bar: Sun, Shisha and Tapas
Also part of the luxurious Karma Kandara resort is the Temple Lounge & Bar located on the roof of the La Mare restaurant, which is perched on the cliff top.
It has a distinctly different vibe from Karma Beach resort and you get a view of the ocean from 150 metres high.
Temple is decked out in a sumptuous North African style – roomy colourful banquettes, shisha pipes for smoking and Moroccan stained-glass lanterns.
It sets the scene for the similarly themed food – custom cocktails and Middle Eastern-inspired tapas.
17. Frankenstein’s Laboratory: Scare yourself silly
Are you a horror junkie?
If so, you’ll love Frankenstein’s Laboratory, which not only has a unique theme but is also possibly the scariest bar in Bali.
The Lab is where you can get your cocktails (we mean strange concoctions served in beakers, test tubes, syringes and IV bags).
You can order off the menu, or if nothing suits your dark desires, you can even ask the mad scientists to cook something up for you.
Get some Monster Bites at the restaurant or be entertained by the Dancing Dead Cabaret, which consists of comely blood-splattered undead women, Dracula, and of course Frankenstein himself.
Located in IZE Hotel Seminyak, stepping into Single Malt Whiskey is like stepping into Prohibition-era New York.
You’re transported back to the 1920s and Single Malt is an underground speakeasy, with its brick walls, oversized leather armchairs, vintage lamps and Persian rugs.
