1. So… What can we do here?

1-a. Educational fun for the little (and big) ones – The Garden Bali

Why would you even consider sending your child to school while on holiday? Well, if learning’s always as fun as it is at The Garden Bali, we wouldn’t mind going to school either.

The Garden Early Learning Centre is a casual drop-in and long-term school for local and visiting children alike.

Kids from as young as 18 months old up to six years old will have a smashing time with educational play at the Kids’ Club, where they’ll get to try their hand at activities like arts and crafts and lego building. They might even emerge as the next Kiddie Masterchef at the kids’ cooking classes!

Short 5-day holiday programs are also available, if you’re wracking your brains over how to entertain your children. Simply drop them off at the learning centre and watch them run into the magical worlds of witches, dinosaurs and even outer space.

If you’re envious of all the fun your kid is having, you can even join them in their learning journey at the Parent and Child Early Learning classes. Every Tuesday and Thursday morning, parents can turn up for school with their little ones (up to two years of age) and bond with them while learning through fun activities.

Everything here is educational and fun. Little drama kings and queens will love the after school drama clubs, and you can even choose to throw a birthday party for your child.

1-b. Catch a minature waterfall – Melasti Beach (near Tanah Lot)

One of the seven sea temples located along the Bali coastline, Tanah Lot is also one of the most picturesque locations in Canggu!

During the low tide, you can cross over to the base of the temple, although visitors are not allowed in the actual temple itself. While you’re there, keep an eye out for the small caves caused by wave erosion.

It is rumoured to be inhabited by venomous sea snakes, believed to be guardians of the temple. Unless you’re Harry Potter/Voldemort and can communicate with snakes, then have no fear…….ha ha ha

If you’re visiting during the evening, get ready to snap some beautiful Instagram photos because Tanah Lot is known for one of the most gorgeous spots to witness the daily miracle – a sunset.

If you don’t want to jostle with the crowd for a space, be sure to come a little earlier, because…just look at that! Who doesn’t want a full panoramic view of that? It’s no wonder why Tanah Lot is one of the must-see attractions in Bali.

1-g. Learn how to play an interesting instrument – Yudelele

If you are into good acoustics or chilling with good music, then you should definitely check out Yudelele while you’re at Canggu.

Yep we said it right the first time, the Yudelele is definitely a thing!

Developed after many years of trial and error by its Balinese creator Yude Andiko, the Yudelele is a labour of love.

It shares a similar size and shape to the Ukelele, but has six strings just like a regular guitar – making it the ultimate travel guitar for surfers to play happy relaxing tunes while lounging around.

Its light weight also means that it’s an instrument that young children can easily pick up! (Get it, get it……?)

The Yudelele workshop is nestled amongst the panoramic rice fields of Canggu on Bali’s west coast, so you can also request for a factory visit to see how the talented guitar makers painstakingly create each yudelele while enjoying the scenic view.

Killing two birds with one stone!

1-h. Celebrate your love and craft your own silver jewelry – House of Alaia

When he first sought to open his own restaurant, he wanted to create a place where guests could gather and experience themselves as the beautiful, unique individuals that they are.

Bearing that in mind, he sought to make his open-concept restaurant “a place with heart”. And it shows through his selection of the antique wooden furniture, the menus he carefully made using his typewriter, and even extends to the way he chooses his staff.

2-d. Enjoy some quiet time and unwind with vegetarian Thai food – Green Ginger Noodle House

If you’re a vegetarian, you definitely have to eat at Green Ginger Noodle House when you’re at Canggu. As you’re along Jalan Raya Pantai Berawa looking for this well-loved vegetarian sanctuary, look out for this little blue sign!

A homely restaurant serving vegetarian Thai food, Green Ginger Noodle House has been well-received by many vegetarians, vegans and even meat lovers have sworn by the tastiness of their food!

While you do yourself a favour and eat at this uniquely decorated space, you definitely need to try their all-time famous Larb. Toasted ground rice with tofu, lime, chili, shallots and lemongrass served in lettuce cups, it would be criminal not to try this mouthwatering salad dish.

Another customer favourite would be the vegetarian Laksa. Beautifully balanced between sweet, sour and salty, this aromatic curry soup is an explosion of flavours that will not disappoint.

Last but not least, be sure to visit the enchanted meditative garden at Green Ginger. With tinkling chimes, hanging plants, it’s definitely a picturesque to relax on a nice sunny day.

2-e. Horsing around– Aravina Restaurant @ Bali Equestrian Centre

Looking for a kid-friendly restaurant? Whether your kid is prepping to be a Horse Whisperer or just wants to have some fun in the sun, they’ll surely enjoy the Aravina Restaurant, located within the Bali Equestrian Centre at Canggu.

Your little animal lovers will be delighted at the pony rides available, and if that’s not their thing, the premises are also equipped with a wide variety of toys and play areas – a sandpit, cubby house, swings – you name it.

There’s also a TV room where you can keep the kids quiet and content with a movie, and a swimming pool right beside the restaurant, so your child will always be in your line of sight.

Imagine sipping at a glass of wine leisurely and digging into one of the restaurant’s popular sunset platters as you watch your children have the time of their lives – doesn’t that sound like a great outing already?

2-f. Enjoy a good night of music at the unofficial town square – Old Man’s Bar

The perfect spot to chill at after a long day of salty surfing, Old Man’s Bar is one of the most popular beer gardens amongst surfers and locals. Family-friendly and with an inviting atmosphere, it’s almost always crowded.

It’s not hard to see why. Located right on Batu Bolong Beach, Old Man’s Bar is not just a great place for cheap drinks and good western food, it’s also one of the best spots to watch the surfers ride the waves.

Needless to say, that also makes it perfect for watching the sun cast its last glow on the sandy shores.

The atmosphere only gets better as the day passes. And if you’re into live music performances, keep your ears peeled – because Balinese bands put up performances every day after 6:30pm.

On weekends, there’ll be a DJ warming up the crowds. Either way, no matter when you go to Old Man’s Bar, your ears will always be in for a treat.

Also, if you’re looking for a great night of partying, you’ll be happy to know that every Wednesday is Dirty Ol’ Wednesday – where the Happy Hour lasts from 5 to 6pm and margaritas cost just $3 all night!

You have to visit Old Man’s Bar, the heart of Canggu’s hustle and bustle, or you won’t be able to say you’ve visited Canggu at all! 😉

2-g. Take a ride on the quaint old-school carriage – Betelnut Cafe

Located in Canggu, Betelnut Café is well known for their really tasty menus that are not only delicious, but are healthy and good for the body as well.

While Betelnut Café isn’t as polished as the usually sophisticated cafes around, the lush rice paddy and homey double-story thatch bungalow make a great backdrop for that perfect addition to your Insta-gallery.

Apart from the famously tasty food, make sure to take photos at the super quaint area just before you head up the stairs to the breezy mezzanine. Sit on the old school carriage and snap a shot, before heading up to get a good view of the grounds below.

Next, the famous Naga Bowl breakfast is an absolute hit with everyone who’s in the know – and if you’re into healthy eating, you definitely won’t want to miss this. It’s filled with nothing but the best! Banana, dragonfruit, yoghurt puree, and sprinkled with cashews, shredded coconut, granola and other fruits.

 

If not, you might just want to go for the Big Betelnut salad. Why big? It consists of 4 of Betelnut Café’s signature salads all in 1! There are also wraps, tex-mex tacos and burritos to choose from if you’re looking for something heavier. Finally, wash it all down with a healthy juice – or a cider if you’re feeling it!
