The famous chef and restaurateur Edward Lee once said :
“ Dessert is like a feel-good song and the best ones make you dance”.
The art of fine dessert has never failed to make even the best of us squeal in delight and give in to temptation at the very sight of it.
And those with a sweet tooth will agree that after every meal, there’s always room for dessert!
You’ve heard all about these irresistibly Instagrammable sweets in Bali, but do you know that the lively metropolitan city of Jakarta boasts of such fancy desserts too?
Not only are they irresistibly cute, but they taste so good that you will dance right on your seat!

Enter the playful factory-themed cake-and-dessert shop Cake a Boo, which serves a wide array of cakes, parfaits, coffee, sweet sushi and nutella burger.
And with its recent hype, everyone has gone bonkers over this one – The Gudetama Cake. Inspired by the personification of the lazy cartoon egg created by Japanese corporation Sanrio, this cafe has also jumped onto the bandwagon train and created a sweet surprise for fans.
So laze your day away in the company of friends and savory cakes, and don’t forget to snap those pictures to share with fellow dessert lovers everywhere!
2. The matcha-and-ice-cream snow globe: Food Fighters
As a one-stop food centre housing 20 food stalls in one big cool warehouse, Food Fighters is serious in bringing you many creative creations of sweet savory desserts.
You need to try the gorgeous Kakigori, a colorful shaved ice drink served with seaweed jelly, crystal ice cubes, popcorn, chocolate sticks, and topped with a cloud of colorful cotton candy.
Ice Bomb is another signature – a tower of bubble gum ice-cream, covered in chockful of crispy and colorful cornflakes.
And if you are a fan of matcha, you will swoon at this one – the Matcha Meltigori, a big glass bowl of shaved iced, mint syrup, chocolate chips served with a scoop of ice cream. A layer of crispy pancake covers the bowl as a lid, topped with delicious green tea lava cake. The entire creation simply resembles a fancy snow globe dessert.
As you dig your spoon into the cake and the lava oozes out, watch it drip onto the pancake and all the way down to the bottom of the glass.
Satisfaction for the eyes and your tastebuds for sure!
3. Have you heard of Bimbimbap shaved ice?: PatBing Soo
Do you love Korean shaved ice, the “patbingsoo”?
These milky delicate shaved ice topped with fruit and snacks will leave you craving for more.
Besides the usual Korean patbingsoo flavors, this cafe delights you with a special creation – the Bibim Patbingsoo, a sweet replica of the Korean signature mixed rice with sunny side up (also known as Bibimbap).
Bibim Patbingsoo is a bowl of shaved ice with different fruit toppings to mimic the Bibimbap (Korean rice with assorted vegetables) such as kiwi and jelly for the veggies, strawberry sauce as the Gochujang (chilli) paste, and vanilla ice cream with peach fruit as the sunny side up. We can only say “Jinjja gwiyeobda” (so cute)!
4. Frozen at 0° Celsius + Indulgent Chocolate Sphere: Cassis Kitchen
Cassis Kitchen is a gastronomic ride from first to finish. This fancy cafe serves appetizing salad, main course, and of course, a lovely Instagram-worthy dessert.
This icylicious dessert is named 0° Celsius, with a flawless presentation of an ice bowl that has been chilled for 18 hours, and filled with 7 types of fresh exotic fruit such as kiwi and dragonfruit. After adding tangy lemon sorbet with a wash of white wine, its unique texture and pretty looks are guaranteed to thrill everyone on the table.
If you love chocolate, you must dig into the Chocolate Sphere V 2.0, which oozes chocolatey goodness both inside and out, topped with a sprinkle of honey crumb chunks, peanut butter mousse, and caramelized nuts.
5. Flaming baked marshmallow ball with frozen ice-cream: Bistecca
Bistecca is famed for its steak, which is said to have tantalized the tastebuds of many Jakarta food connoisseurs, so expect nothing less when it comes to its desserts.
The Signature Baked Alaska is one that sets many tongues wagging just by the look of it.
Shaped like a small durian with thick spikes, it’s a marshmallow bun which coats three layers of ice-cream and a moist chocolate sponge cake underneath.
When the waiter pours a shot of fired rhum, this spiked ball will burst into flames, baking (but not destroying) the sides of the marshmallow as you slice it open and reveal the frozen ice-cream within.

6. Pikachu cotton candy fluff: Shirokuma
Shirokuma is the iconic Japanese white bear that has been making waves in Jakarta.
The cafe is famed for its perfect creation of soft ice-cream in matcha flavor, but its original flavor is also fans’ favorite. To enjoy the best of both worlds, you can simply order a mix of both in one crispy delicious cone.
Where best to escape from the heat but this frosty sweets shop?
With several pretty selections of parfait, frappe, and floats, the winner is perhaps the Snow Affogato.
This fluffy rainbow cotton candy is perched on top of a fancy ice-cream glass with a scoop of the creamiest and softest ice cream. A side of espresso shot accompanies this picture-perfect eye candy for you to devour, but not before you Instagram every angle of it!
To top it off, check out Pikachu Wonderland, a delightful inspirational spin-off from this dessert!
7. This is what a rainbow tastes like: BC Cones
If you can taste a rainbow, we’re pretty sure BC Cones nails the flavour just right!
Bring out the artist in you as you pair up 6 ice-cream flavors with 3 yummy selections of cones. Ice-cream flavors range from the classic vanilla to the popular matcha to funky tastes such as soda and taro. The cones are equally artsy – black charcoal, red roses and blue bubble gum.
Finish your delicious creation by topping it off with caramel popcorn, gold sprinkle, or caramel injection among other temptatious options.
If you can’t decide, there’s always the Artsy Palette Platter, a serving of 6 mini cones with different shades and toppings.

The star of the show is Baozy Smores, a heavenly fancy milkshake dressed to the nines. The generous tall glass is filled with an icy chocolate drink, topped with whipped cream, an oreo, and a mini bun secured by a straw.
To wield the finishing touch, the glass is stuck full of smores and waffle biscuits, held together by a thick layer of chocolate on the outer rim of the glass.
Now if this doesn’t prompt you to pull out your smartphones, we don’t know what will!
9. The coolest bad boy of dessert – Skeleton Cake: Blue Fox Restaurant & Lounge
Forget colorful and girly desserts for once.
Blue Fox Cafe features the dark and gritty side of sweets – the Skeleton Cake.
This perfectly crafted skull-shaped chocolate cake is served on a black plate sprinkled heavily with powdered sugar. Two pieces of lightly-scorched marshmallow, together with a squirt of whipped cream and red-blooded cherry accompany and complement this grim treat. And this is finally sent out to you with a thick chocolate drink in a shot glass.
There’s only one way to honor this bad boy – let your camera do the work, before your stomach does!
10. Melt the chocolate sphere to find the treasure: Monty’s Restaurant, Senopati
The posh Monty’s cafe delivers flawless looking food from their kitchen. But the one that definitely takes the cake is their dessert – Dark Chocolate & Whiskey.
Plated on an unpretentious yet elegant white dish, this beautiful chocolate sphere is well-sized with assorted berries and nuts all around. On the side is a ceramic sauce bowl that holds the searing hot chocolate and whisky sauce.
The idea is to pour the sauce over the sphere to melt the chocolate crust, and when it breaks and caves in, it reveals its interior contents – a to-die-for toffee-chocolate pudding topped with vanilla ice-cream.
